The Annual Legislative trip to Raleigh took place Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4th and 5th. The group representing Haywood Chamber included Nyda Bittmann-Neville, Board Chair, Mark Clasby, EDC Executive Director, Laura Leatherwood, Board member and John Tench, Executive Board Committee and Chair of the Political Relations Committee. The group joined other Chambers from Asheville/Buncombe County, Transylvania, Henderson, McDowell, and Madison counties.

The day began with a meeting of the entire group with the North Carolina Chamber. They presented their legislative agenda and answered questions. Next we heard from Secretary of Commerce Copeland followed by a panel debate with NC Free Enterprise. The annual reception was held at Second Empire where the group had the opportunity to meet/mingle and discuss issues and concerns one-on-one with our legislative members. This is always one of the highlights of the trip. Wednesday morning began with Governor Cooper addressing the group, then free time to meet with specific legislators and ended with a meeting with Secretary of Transportation Trogdon.

The trip is one of the highlights of the Chamber’s year as making our legislators aware of the business community needs not only of Haywood County but also Western North Carolina is vital.
