In light of the announced closing of the Pactiv-Evergreen Paper Mill in Canton, NC, SYNEVA Economics of Waynesville has been asked to conduct an economic impact analysis of the closure. As part of the analysis, we have issued a short online survey to measure the impact on local suppliers.
The individual information we collect is completely confidential and will not be published or shared. We will group the answers with those of other businesses.
We hope to have the survey open until March 24th.

Upcoming Job Fairs
• Town of Canton Job Fair: noon to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 16, Pinnacle Church, 415 Fibreville St., Canton. The fair includes well recognized employers such as MB Haynes, Borg Warner, Harrah’s and others.
• International Paper hiring event: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. 3-day event // March 23-25, at Lake Junaluska. International Paper is coming to town to recruit paper mill employees who would want to stay in the industry. International Paper representatives will be onsite to share job openings at various IP locations around the country. On-the-spot interviews will be held for some positions. Held at the Harrell Center.
• WNC Career Expo: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Western North Carolina Ag Center in Fletcher.
Various employers in dynamic industries like advanced manufacturing and health care will interview candidates, with several able to make employment offers on the spot. The WNC Career Expo will offer free services to job seekers in need of career readiness or career search support. Experts from NCWorks Career Centers will be on site throughout the event offering free interview preparation support and resume reviews to job seekers.
• Job fair and resume-building services: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the Pigeon River Masonic Lodge. Companies with job openings will be onsite, and professionals will offer assistance for those who need to prepare a resume. Hosted by the Pigeon River Masonic Lodge. Located at 382 Champion Dr., Canton.
A free resume workshop is available for Evergreen employees. Interested individuals may drop in at any time on March 21 and 22, 2023 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-5:00 pm at the Education Center in Clyde. Each participant will leave the event with a paper copy of a resume and an electronic version on a flash drive. If you plan to attend, please bring a written outline of your work experience with you.
